Dancing and Drawing at the Tango Joy Weekend – Art, Tango, and a Little Bit of Chaos
Drawing
This past weekend, I was drawing at the Tango Joy Weekend marathon, and it was a bit of a mess. Thanks to various kid-related disruptions, I only managed to attend two daytime milongas, which is actually not bad. But on Saturday, I tried really hard to sketch as much as possible – and ended up with nothing. Seriously, just wasted paper. One good piece and a couple of decent ones – good news: I even sold one of the decent ones right there on the spot.
But dancing?
Oh, that went great! Should’ve started with that instead of torturing myself. On Sunday, I wised up – started with dancing and let drawing happen whenever it could.
There was live music by theTangotica orchestra, and the atmosphere was perfectly joyful. And when you kick things off with great tango, sketching gets easier too. I sketched the whole Tangotica, plus some other stuff. Ended up with about 26 pretty decent sketches that I could work with. Now all that’s left is to sit down and get them finished – after I get over this cold (why did I have to get sick now? Silly me!). Aside from drawing and the overall amazing atmosphere, the Tango Joy Weekend also had incredible food and partners. As my friend put it, “marathon-level” partners (not that I’m all that picky). Special shoutout to Nicole’s insanely good chocolate cake, and the best tanda ever with the author of this photo – Andreas Andersson. If you made it to the end, you’re a real champ! I hope to put pictures here very soon, but right now just enjoy my old ones (SEO needs internal links for better, hm, SEO)
